A few more days, 2020 will be gone, therefore it’s about time for me to think about my word for next year. But prior to that let’s have a flash-back on the impact these last months, these last days had on my 2020 word:
“Serenity”
Basically, I did well in terms of my chosen word, being my self advocate I honestly can admit the fact. I won’t list all the events that occurred but considering the pandemic, day to day life, ups and downs, honestly my targeted word was reached. On a personal tone, regarding family and friends, am fortunate and blessed that everything went smoothly, on the whole my daily wasn’t really affected by lockdowns and self distancing, things have to be as they have so that’s it. When you get old you acquire a certain philosophy.
Of course, broadening my conclusion, Covid has been a disaster and regrettably is still is for the whole World. My thoughts are for all the families who lost loved ones, all those who are still suffering either directly or indirectly, not withstanding the enormous impact on the worldwide economy with its catastrophic fallout.
That’s said for 2020. The show must go on!
What will be my chosen word for 2021? After some hesitation, some selection, finally I came to the conclusion that it will be:
“Hope”
This word, from Old English hopian, used in the 12th century, implies little certainty but suggests confidence or assurance in the possibility that what one desires or longs for will happen. Simply I will apply the archaic definition of “hope”: “a feeling of trust”. Yes, this word helps to move forward, to expect a better future and many more, to look far away…
It will be exhaustive for me to explain the reason or purpose of my choice. We all live in the same World, we are all concerned by the joyful and/or dramatic events occurring around the globe. We all have to meet every challenge with courage and determination or at least try. This is enough to substantiate my word for 2021.
May be you will understand better why “Hope” is my word when you will learn that my family crest’s motto is “Dum spiro spero” (“As long as I breathe, I hope”).
“Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all.”
― Emily Dickinson
To each of you my faithful followers my wish is that 2021 will be better than 2020, this is my hope!
Thank you Louise!! So beautifully done, encouragement needed by us all. Lots of Love…
Kindest thoughts from across the pond and my blogpost… Love you all!
HOPE – what a powerful word. It’s one that we all need to focus on, to live for, and the fact that it’s part of your family crest, is more meaningful, for sure. This is so well written and beautiful and your photographs throughout show that you look deeply at your world and represent all the fine things in pictures and in your words, along with those borrowed by other writers (I love the Emily Dickinson poem). (I’m blown away by the statue in front of the ‘twenty-seven’ building. It’s as if she is breaking away from the bricks — with HOPE for the future. Powerful image)
I’ve chosen FOCUS for my word this year. It’s so easy to be distracted, to flail about moving from one thing to another, and not seeing (or Noticing — my 2020 word) what needs to be done, what should be attended to or can wait, what you can do to keep yourself inspired, sane, and just plain happy. So I’m going to clean up around myself and try to FOCUS on one (or two) things at a time, get things done, and hopefully keep from stressing out. Part of this too, is to stop taking on so many different ‘projects’ but to stay better organized and FOCUS on those things that make me feel whole.
Thanks for continuing to challenge me and for sharing your wisdom and grace.
Happy, HOPEful New Year.
One of my Maths teacher in College told me “focus on the essential”, he was absolutely right. Sometimes it’s not an easy task but Lynne you will achieve that, I know your temerity! I wrote these lines with my heart thinking of those who can stick a label with “disaster” written on it to synthesize 2020, anyway we shall overcome!
Is that your art? It’s so beautiful!!!
Yes Madam, it’s mine 😉
A super choice for the word of 2021 Louise – I think it is one we can all embrace. Great collage work and I really like your final painting. Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season and a happy and healthy 2021.
Val, hope is a motivation engine, isn’t it? All the best for 2021, enjoy a safe and peaceful Holidays season!
Wishing you all the best in 2021. Emily Dickinson really nails it in her quote!
